My older sister is getting married in less than a month. For the past year she has been busy planning of last detail of her wedding, including many areas that I would not have even thought to consider looking at. One of the most difficult choices she faced was choosing her wedding photographer. Apart from the natural memories of the day, your wedding photographer is the only way you will be able to remember the joyous occasion. This makes picking your wedding photographer an extremely important choice. Obviously price is going to be a large factor, but you must consider the tradeoff of quality versus price when finding a wedding photographer. I do not know how much my sister (and my parents) is spending on the wedding photographer, but I can tell you it is a significant amount.
I can share with you the basic process they used to find their wedding photographer. The single largest factor in their decision was the advice they received from their friends. The wedding photographer that they chose was also used by two of their good friends. These referrals are often the foundation of the business for a wedding photographer. Once my sister had narrowed it down to a few potential wedding photographers, each photographer met with her and actually photographed her with her fiancé, similar to a photography audition. Based on these pictures, my sister was able to make her final choice. The process of finding their wedding photographer was slow, and often frustrating. Hopefully, when we look back at these pictures it will all have been worthwhile.
